Before he became a pastor to tens of thousands, M.B. John was an orphaned shepherd boy who watched other children walk to school while he tended sheep under a scorching Indian sun. Education was the door that changed everything — and it is still changing futures across rural India today.
Pastor John did not begin first grade until he was thirteen years old. He learned his first letters not because it was expected of him, but because he walked up to a missionary and asked for a chance — a chance to read, to learn, and to make something of the life he had been given. That single act of courage set in motion a lifetime of service that would touch villages most people will never see on a map.
His story is a reminder of something we believe deeply: a child's circumstances do not have to decide their future. When a young person in a remote village learns to read, the whole horizon of their life widens. They can read Scripture for themselves. They can write their own name. They can imagine a future that reaches beyond the field they were born into.
Why Education Matters in Rural India
In many of the villages we serve across the Telangana region, opportunity is scarce and distance is real. Children may live miles from the nearest classroom, and families often face the impossible choice between sending a child to learn or keeping them home to work. The result is a cycle that repeats generation after generation.
Breaking that cycle does not require a miracle so much as it requires people who are willing to invest — in a child, in a teacher, in a village that the rest of the world has overlooked. That is the conviction Pastor John carried his entire life, and it is the conviction his family carries forward through John Ministries.
